The useful number is the cost of a complete, usable system, not the price of a camera multiplied by the number of walls. A commercial quote should explain the views you need, the installation work, the recording capacity and who will support the finished system. Two quotes with the same camera count can cover very different work.
For a business in New Albany, Tupelo, Oxford or the surrounding service area, start with a written description of the job. A loading area, small office and public-facing reception space have different viewing goals and installation constraints. This guide helps you compare proposals without assuming that one price fits every building.
Start with the view you need
Write down what you want each position to show. Observing activity at a loading door is a different goal from identifying a person entering a doorway. Give the installer the approximate distances, operating hours and lighting conditions. Ask how the proposed camera and mounting position will be checked against that goal.
- Mark entrances, parking or loading areas and other business areas on a simple floor plan.
- Identify obstructions, reflections, changing light and places where cameras should not point.
- List who needs to view footage and who should be allowed to export or administer it.
What belongs in a commercial camera quote?
| Cost item | What to ask the installer |
|---|---|
| Cameras and mounting | Which models, quantities, mounts and viewing goals are included? |
| Cabling and access | Are new cable runs, terminations, difficult access and any lift rental included? |
| Network and power | Does the existing switch have suitable ports and power capacity? What equipment must be added? |
| Recording and storage | What recording settings and usable capacity support the proposed retention goal? |
| Configuration and handover | Are authorized user setup, footage export training and documentation included? |
| Ongoing costs | Which support, optional cloud services, software subscriptions and replacement items are separate? |
| Scheduling and travel | Are travel, after-hours work and site visits included or separately agreed? |
Compare recording settings as well as storage size
A recorder with a larger drive does not by itself tell you how many useful days of footage you will retain. Camera settings, recording mode and the number of streams matter. Ask the installer to document the assumptions behind the retention estimate and verify the result after normal operation.
UniFi Protect provides retention controls and options for exporting or archiving important footage. Its enhanced retention feature can reduce the quality of older video; footage reduced to lower quality cannot later be restored to its original quality. If identifying details matter, discuss the required quality as well as the number of days. The manufacturer documentation below explains the available controls.
Three scopes that should not have the same quote
| Example | Questions that change the work |
|---|---|
| Small office with usable existing cables | Can the cables be tested and reused? Are the current viewing positions suitable? |
| Warehouse with new loading-area coverage | How will cables reach each position? What access equipment and installation windows are needed? |
| Business with multiple buildings | How will cameras connect to recording equipment, and how will authorized staff manage access? |
These are planning examples, not completed Net-Tech projects or price estimates. Request an itemized proposal for your building rather than treating an online package price as an installed commercial quote.
What to verify before accepting the installation
- Check the agreed views under representative daytime and nighttime conditions.
- Play back a recording and export a sample clip with the people who will use the system.
- Confirm which business-controlled account owns the system and how staff access is removed.
- Receive an equipment list, location plan, agreed settings and support contact.
- Record any outstanding work and the terms for maintenance, warranty assistance and replacement.
Can I avoid a monthly camera subscription?
Ask the provider to separate recording costs from support and optional services. A locally recorded design may avoid a cloud-recording subscription, but that does not make installation, storage replacement or ongoing support free. Compare the complete ownership costs over the period you expect to use the system.
How do I get an accurate local quote?
Send the business address or city, building use, coverage goals, approximate camera locations and desired completion date. Mention any existing equipment. Net-Tech serves commercial customers within 100 miles of New Albany; the scope, schedule and any on-site travel are agreed before work begins. Do not send account passwords or sensitive footage with the initial inquiry.
